Hi,

I see that the water pump is leaking a bit so I've decided to replace. Is there a preferred brand? I do most all the work myself and I figure this to take 4 hours or so. Is this about right? First time doing a water pump..........any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'd buy from a quality part store like mentioned (Napa).. Also do the timing chain cover gasket and with the water pump out it will be much easier to do the thermostat

If a bolt/stud/studded bolt looks rough (i.e.- pitted from corrosion/ rust/suspect threads) replace it.Ive had one or two of them break before due to age/corrosion.
If you have a grinder with a wire brush, its a good idea to give them all a good cleaning before you reinstall.I like to put a little antiseize on their threads before installation.Make sure the pump is reverse rotation.

+1^^^ That cover & pump won't torque down evenly if the bolt threads are dirty.

You may also want to consider using thread sealant instead of antiseize- I seem to recall some of those bolt holes going into the coolant passages of the block.
