Do you know which is better, the GT40 or the GT40P heads? Both are out of explorers

search the web and decide whats best for your application, but in my opinion its a toss up. Which ever you can get a better deal on is the one I would grab.

The GT40P's are from the later explorers and the GT-40's are used in the earlier explorers and cobras. In my opinion the GT-40's are in higer demand and a lot of people want crazy money for them on ebay. I ended up going the GT-40P route because I got them for Like $150 at a local pick and pull along with the intake, but $1000 dollars later they are ported and polished with new springs and stainless valves. If you go the "p" route, you will have to upgrade the springs to even run them with the stock cam,and you will also need special headers to put them in a mustang, but overall, I like the deal I got on my set and didn't want to pay just short of an aluminum head for the some stock GT-40's(yes I know I'm in it for more than an aluminum head now, but its become a quest to see how much power I can make with the gt-40 set up)

If your car is bone stock right now, and you're asking about "first upgrades", and mentioning that "money is tight", I'd start w/ the cheap, easy basics that should eventually be done, anyway. I'd start with a cat-back system, 3.55s, pulleys, and a shifter. Pulleys won't make a huge diff, but for, what $70? Go for it. If it has OE shocks/struts, replacing those w/ even an OE-spec setup, like KYBs, will make a big diff. If after you do those things, you still have money, I'd finish off the exhaust. H/C/I are where the real gains come from, but you don't want to do all that, and choke it off w/ a skinny, crimped, quiet exhaust... Good luck!

I got an 89 5.0 5 speed hatch thats all stock for now. Plan to throw some 3.73s in at some point, but other than that, where's a good place to start in upgrades? Money is a little tight, but I can always save.
Here ya go dude. I have a million different things I would tell you, but it's easier to just say check out what I did:
