Default port e7 heads or gt-40p heads?

I'm running a 302 with stock intake, 70mm tb and b303 cam. I was wondering which would be best on budget and performance, port my e7 heads and install 1.7rr's, or find gt-40p heads to install. Also, is it true that my bbk shorty headers won't fit on the gt-40p heads? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

either will work well, I'd buy the set that was the cheapest all else being equal (freshened up of low miles). The stock headers will work, but changing plugs will be a PITA and 90 degree plug boots and wire management will be a requirement.

Yup, 90 degree boots and maybe even some boot protectors will prevent them from being burned.

I ported my own E7 heads and factory lower/upper intake, kept the stock cam, and added Crane 1.7 RR's. Ported E7's work well but still not as good as GT40P's. The only thing that puts me off the GT40P's is the difficulty in changing the spark plugs. I have MAC long tubes which, I believe, will fit on the GT40P's. Maybe someone can confirm if that's the case.

changing my plugs is no problem - but I have MAC headers for the P heads.

I have mac long tubes on my car with the p heads and they all fit, the only one that is a little tight is the #4 plug and its not bad I jus dont have space to slip over a spark plug socket on it but they all clear pretty good.

Go with the gt-40's. I had ported and milled e7 heads w/ roller rockers, plus I added a cam and only knocked off 2/10's of a second in the 1/4 mile.

That's good to know 'cause I reckon even unported GT40P's will be worth 15-20rwhp over my ported E7's without a loss of low rev torque. Since my goal is to have a high torque engine similar to Tom's (tmoss), I think I'll start looking around for a pair of those heads.
