Default 17x10.5 inch wheels on a fox?

Im gathering parts to do a five lug all disc conversion on my 87 mustang by the end of the year.
im getting axles from an sn95.
i read that the axles are .75" longer
would this allow me to mount up some 10.5 inch wheels with the right offset and backspacing?
the wheels i want are the 03 cobra wheels from american muscle
Back Spacing: 6.8" (173mm)
Offset: +27mm (1.10")

has anyone put wheels this size on their foxbody before?

ive read that flipping the quad shock frees up some clearance too.

thanks

The 03' Cobra wheel from American Muscle will only work if you remove the center cap from the wheel. The grease caps on the fox body front discs hits this grease cap and knocks it off. The SN95 set up is different for the front brakes that's why the center cap isn't a problem. The 10.5 will hit on the inside of the rear wheel wells, you can do it but you'll need to do lots of clearancing. Most people, myself included, only recommend using a 9.5" at best under the back. If you run mini tubs in can be done. Look at my avatar, that is a fox body with 18x12 Saleen rims out back with mini tubs. The axles you really want are from a ranger, not the SN-95, these are the correct length for your swap. Call the guys at Late Model Restoration, they have a kit that's almost as cheap as farming out parts from the salvage yard and they're new parts.

If you're going to use the SN95 rear brakes, then you'll need to use the SN95 rear axles. That is unless you buy the special caliper brackets that offset the caliper to allow use of the stock length axles.

Let's just make this super simple...SN95 axles, use SN95 brakes this will bolt on if you use the North Race Cars adapter bracket. Yes they are .75 longer, thus the adapter bracket. North Racecars Brake Solutions Go to this site and you will see what I'm talking about. If you want to convert to the SN95 front brakes, you will need the 94-95 (ONLY) front spindles to do so. This will move your current set up 3mm farther outboard. Not that it matters, but the control arm is 1" longer on the SN95 cars. They also use a low friction ball joint, as compared to the fox body cars. Wheel/tire size will also play into this equation. You only have so much fender to squeeze all of this under/around. Fenders from the 92' and later fox body cars will have wider openings at the bottom to accommodate your choice of fat rubber. If you want to use the Ranger axles they will clip right in. The 5 lug conversion uses these axles with the corresponding drum to convert the 4 lug to 5 lug on the economy set. Wolfe Race Craft - Detail This link will show you the mini tubs I wrote about.

u are the man
i went to a mustang race shop today and the guy told me everything i needed.
he told me to go to that same north racecars website. he said that id need to get rid of the quad shock if i wanted 10.5" wide wheels but it would be ok if i used upper and lower control arms with urethane bushings so i dont get wheel hop.
also that i would have to fabricate some brake lines. or re flare them.
thanks a lot for all the help. you steered me in the right direction.
greatly appreciate it
