Default 1996 Mustang GT 4.6L 2V T45 BORG-WARNER Vs T45 TREMEC Transmission Help!

1996 Mustang GT 4.6L 2V T45 BORG-WARNER Vs T45 TREMEC Transmission Help!

The T45 “BORG-WARNER” transmission in my 96 GT went out two weeks ago and I replaced it with a T45 TREMEC transmission.

Here’s my problem! Everything bolted up great as I was told it would, but the method of measuring the speed “mph” is different.
The BORG-WARNER used a transducer with small plastic gear on the end that could be changes based on the gears that are installed in the rear-end. The TREMEC used a transducer that reads the internal transmission gears!

The plug connection is the same for both units and the speedometer even work, other then in third gear at 2000 rpm’s it reads over a 100 mph. What can I do to correct this? I have 3.73 rear gears.

Thanks, KSP

The 99+ Cars I beleive have the speedo calculated through teh computer, not through a speedo gear. It might be because the tranny you put in is from a newer car. I'll look more into it, anyone else have anything?

Yea the gauges on the newer cars 99+ are electronic, the older cars have the traditional style pod.Ive havent ran across anybody who has done that kinda swap, but I dont think the SpeedCal will correct your problem either because you have the old style gauges and computer setup...Good Luck..If I hear any info Ill post it..

Please Do Let Me Know If Anyone Knows How To Correct The Newer Trans Swap Speedo Problem.

I was told it is possible to swap out the tail unit! Does this sound correct?

the only thing you can do is swap the tail shaft assembly out. use your old mechanical one.
