Default 2004 Mustang GT Gears..

I recently picked up an 04 GT 5spd its bone stock. I believe the stock gears are 3.27 however I could be wrong. Im having a hard time trying to decide between 3.73 or 4.10. Any recommendations? Which is better. Im looking to super charge it down the road (hopefully) Thanks.

Either will be fine. I would probably go 3.73 since I've been happy with that gear in previous 5 speed cars. I don't think a 4.10 will bump your RPM's up much more than 3.73's at highway speed though.

For a bone stock GT, I would defenitly go with a set of 4.10's. Quicker acceleration off the line, and the difference between 3.73's and 4.10's fuel wise is nothing to speak about. I run 4.10's in my 96 SVT Cobra Convertible, and I still get 21mpg. in the city and highway with 418RWHP and 402RWTQ all motor N/A, Mike. SCT Tuner.

Hook up with a mustang club in your area. I'm sure some members have both gear sets and would be happy to give you a ride. I'm hearing what the guy with the 96 cobra posted since I've always heard those cars really wake up with 4.10s. I'm just curious if that might not be too much gear if you use forced induction later. My 03 Cobra has a factory 3.55 and 1st gear is useless for full acceleration. The car can break loose at 55-60 in second. I have in the neighborhood of 450 RWHP. He has a strong N/A car so I'm interested to hear his opinion.

I'm sure the 4.10s will keep you happy. I'm just unsure if they would be best in your car with forced induction. Since that may be a while off and may not happen go with 4.10s. You do understand tire size will affect your ring and pinion. Taller rims or tires will effectively drop the pulling ability of a gear. Conversely a smaller wheel and tire will effectively raise the pulling ability of the gear.

+1, both would be a great upgrade but I would get the 4.10's.

Yeah Im not too worried about that as Im currently running the 17in chrome cobra r's that came on the car. I have no plans to "Gangsta" the car out. My overall goal is to leave rice burning fagots in my dust.
